New Audio Service @ Your LIbrary

Audio books now available for free downloading from GPL.

Gutekunst Public Library is pleased to offer our patrons a new form of media, down loadable audio books.  This new service is designed to take advantage of the convenience an MP3 player and a consortium of Iowa libraries adding over 500 virtual books to our local collection.

At your library never closes.  Browse, check out, and download digital media with your library card.  This collection is available anytime, anywhere.  It is easy to use;  1. Install free software. 2. Browse and check out titles. 3. Download to a desktop or laptop PC.  Listen to titles on your PC, transfer to supported devices, or burn some titles to CD.  Your library card # will allow you to check out and download any of the titles for free.  The audio books check out to you for a week, as a download on your desk top.  Once the book is downloaded from the desktop to your MP3 player it will remain there until you remove it.  After a week the book checks back in automatically.   There is nothing to remember to return, loose, or damage.  Some titles allow you to burn them to a CD.

As a library director I am very excited for the possibilities this new technology and cooperative provide.  Iowa's state library consultants have come up with this program as a way to provide more books to the public without the cost of purchasing or processing, the space these books would occupy, or the ever disappointing management of a lost or damaged disk among the 12 that currently comprise an a book on tape.  I encourage you to explore this new media.  An MP3 player may be purchased for around $25.00.  They provide portable seamless listening.  There are no disks involved and the players are the size of a cookie, a fig newton.

Information on compatible MP3s and options for playing through car stereos are available on the wilbor site home page.  I will be  happy to answer any questions you may have about this new media.  Chances are pretty good my 11 year can help me with it.

This resource is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by State Library of Iowa.
